Mixed Martial Arts or MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world. The origins of the sport can be traced back to the Greeks and the first Olympics. New rules and safety regulations have allowed MMA to grow and evolve into the mainstream sport it is today.

Here at Port City MMA we offer training and classes to anyone with a good attitude who is wanted to better themselves. We are the only school in South Alabama with professional coaches and professional fighters.  Whether you are looking to one day get in the ring or just get in better shape we have a spot for you.

There are many schools in the area trying to capatilize on the popularity of MMA by offering programs now. Don't be fooled by traditional martial arts instructors who have never been in the ring or cage. In order to learn proper technique you must learn from an instructor who spent many years training in MMA.

We offer classes in boxing, kickboxing, brazilian jiu-jitsu, & wrestling. You can choose a grappling program, striking program, or a sportsmans package with both programs. Cardio training is included in with all packages.

Don't miss your chance to train and get in shape like a professional!!!

Remix MMA fight weekend is a big hit!
Sunday 28 September 2008 - 23:51:38

Jimmy & Chris at the Remix MMA tournament in Ocean Springs, MS

Remix MMA hosted a weekend full of combat sports which included kickboxing on Friday night in D'Iberville, MS and submission grappling/BJJ on Saturday in Ocean Springs, MS.  Port City MMA made a great showing in both events.

On Friday night Daniel McKeever picked up a win in a tough bout in his first kickboxing match against a tough fighter from Louisiana.  He looked great and scored a knockdown in the first round.  Cody Griggers made a return to the ring after suffering a career threatning motorcycle wreck earlier this year.  Cody looked great and got the better of the action in a war against a super tough opponent from Mississippi.

Saturday saw some of the younger competitors making their competative debuts.  Even though he has only been training for 2 months Rob Keane picked up a bronze medal in the beginner lightweight division.  Chris Spotswood had another great showing.  He picked up the gold medal in the middlewight advanced nogi, silver in the absoulte nogi, and gold in the absolute gi division.

It was a great weekend of action and we are excited about going back in December.

Port City MMA leaves Fight Fest 2008 with 5 title belts!!!
Monday 21 April 2008 - 03:17:33

Josh Cain, Will Graves, & Blake Singley show off their Fight Fest Muay Thai championship titles.

Josh Cain got the night started off right for the Port City MMA fighters.  He won a war against a tough fighter from Pensacola Boxing Academy in the heavyweight muay thai championship at the Gulf Coast Fight Festival in Pensacola, FL.  Josh scored a knockdown in round 3 on his way to a unanimous decision victory.

Next up was Will Graves in the super welterweight Thai boxing title contest.  Will dominated the fight and after scoring 2 knockdowns in round 2 the ref finally saved the opponent out of Pensacola.

Blake Singley was up next competing for the middleweight Thai boxing title.  Blake showed his talents and dominated all 3 rounds in route to a unanimous decision victory.  Blake fought a tough opponent from Baton Rouge, LA and had to fight hard to get the victory.

After going undefeated in the Thai boxing competition Aubrey Norris got the team off to a great start in the boxing competition.  Aubrey looked great in defeating a top opponent out of Roy Jones Sr's gym in Pensacola.  He was in controll form the start and won all 3 rounds on the way to the decision.

Richard Whitney
looked great in picking up a victory in the next Port City MMA contest.   Richard cruised to an easy victory against a tough opponent out of Southside Gym.  His defense looked great against an agressive opponent.

Mills & Orso dominate at FFI show in Biloxi
Friday 11 April 2008 - 01:08:20

Jimmy "Cornbread" Mills
and James Orso both won in dominating fashion last Saturday night at the FFI IX show in Biloxi.

Orso
got a huge win and redemed himself with a win over Robert Thompson.  Thompson defeated James in February so Orso was really hungry for the win.  Orso dominated from the start landing a huge array of strikes.  He got a big takedown before the fight went back to the fight.  James finished Robert Thompson off with a huge knee to the head.

Jimmy became the new FFI middleweight champion after defeating former champion Rhomez Brower.  It was a great fight and a war from the start.  Mills controlled Brower in the clinch and was able to get a takedown in every round.  Brower was saved by the bell in round 1 & 3.  Mills clamped on a tight rear naked choke to end round 1 and had a deep armbar as round 3 ended.  The judges scored it 30-27, 29-27, & 30-26 all for Mills

It was a great night for Port City MMA & Slaughterhouse Fight Team and the team continued with the huge roll they have been on.  Look for big things this year!

Sunday 30 March 2008 - 18:57:36

It was a big night for Port City MMA & Slaughterhouse Fight Team March 29 in Linden, AL as the team went 3-0 on the night.

Cody Griggers got things started off with a big TKO win over Joey Merrill from Panama City, FL. Cody looked great and landed bomb after bomb on a super tough opponent before finally stopping him with a huge straight right late in round 1.

Chris Spotswood finished the night off for the guys with a dominating performance in a feature bout grappling match against Ryan Gautier of Slidell, LA. Chris scored 2 submissions and gave up none in the best 2 out of 3 falls match. Chris controlled the action from the start and transitioned from position to another.

It was another great night for the team. All of the guys were very skilled and showed a lot of class in their wins. Great job guys!

Updates on Port City MMA, Slaughterhouse Fight Team, & Smith Boxing
Sunday 16 March 2008 - 21:57:37

Joseph Smith cracked the top 100 boxers in the world this week.  He cracked the rankings coming in at 83 in the world and 27 in the USA in the light heavyweight division.  It is even more impressive that he has done this after only 9 professinoal fights!  Joseph has a big future ahead of him and we are all looking forward to seeing how far he can go.

Congrats to Port City MMA & Slaughterhouse Fight Team member Chris Spotswood for becoming the Alabama State BJJ champion this past weekend in Birmingham. Chris won his division and then went on to win the absolute division as well. Good showing from a talented BJJ competitor.

Chris will be doing a special grappling rules match on March 29 at the show in Linden, AL. James Rutherford & Cody Griggers will be fighting on the Linden card also. The show will take place at the Armory in Linden. Come out and support the Team!

We would also like to congratulate Bobby "Bobo" O'Bannen on picking up his second professional boxing victory this past weekend. Bobby showed once again that his power is hard to handle when he knocked out his opponent to run his pro record to 2-0 with 2 KOs.
